How To Maintain Your Health When Dealing With Extremely Hot Weather Conditions

In recent times, there have been extreme weather changes that have been caused by climate change which has resulted in extremely hot weather conditions. These extreme weather changes, especially heat waves, are capable of causing heat strokes and sometimes death in some severe cases. Those who are more likely to be affected by these health problems include young children, aged/senior citizens, those who are obese, and people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney and liver disease. 

In this blog post, we will be sharing helpful tips on how you can maintain your health and also deal with extremely hot weather conditions.

  1. Drink Lots of Water

Firstly, you have to drink a lot of water and avoid alcoholic, sugary, and carbonated drinks to maintain your health and deal with extreme temperatures. It is also important to note that aged people and young children are less likely to discern bodily signals of dehydration. Hence, if you’re around these types of people,  you can urge them to drink plenty of water.

  1. Take Light Meals

Another way to deal with extremely hot temperatures is to avoid many heavy meals as it may absorb the water in your system. Also, stay away from too many spicy foods as it could lead to excessive sweating leading to Electrolyte imbalances.

  1. Stay in Well Ventilated Rooms

You must stay in well-ventilated rooms during extreme weather conditions. Also, Avoid stuffy rooms and ensure there’s enough air supply in the room.

  1. Don’t Stay Too Long Under The Sun

It is not advisable to stay too long under the sun, most especially within the hours of 1pm and 5pm as that’s the peak sun hours depending on your location. If you need to go out during this period of the day, it is recommended that you have your protective gear on, which includes; face masks, hats, sunscreen sunglasses, etc.

  1. Avoid Going To The Beach During the Day

For those above the age of 60 and young children, it is not advisable to visit the beach in the middle of the day during extremely hot weather conditions.

  1. Have a Relaxing Bath

Having a bath is important in maintaining your health especially during hot weather conditions. This is essential to keep you free of body odors caused by heat while  regulating your body temperature and strengthening your immune system .

  1. Reduce Physical Outdoor Exercises

It is not advisable to engage in too much physical outdoor exercise during extreme temperatures. It’s important to reduce activities that require a lot of physical effort in order to retain and sustain your energy during hot weather conditions.

Lastly, always check up on your loved ones, asking about their health, especially those who are aged, dependent, or isolated during hot weather conditions.

Following these tips will help you maintain your health and stay protected when dealing with extremely hot weather conditions.
